Donald Lipski is known for breathing new life into everyday objects. Bell Chalice is part of an edition of 150 works produced by Lipski for his 1991 solo exhibition at the Contemporary Arts Center. The work is synced to a series of bells; together, the chalices produce a 30-minute composition written by film composer Brad Fiedel. When fabricating these pieces, Lipski worked with the Verdin Company in Cincinnati. The Verdin Company is the largest and oldest producer of bells in the nation. Similarly, Lipski outsourced the purple silk shroud draped over the chalice from Kymber Originals. This woman-owned and Cincinnati-based company designs and creates one-of-a-kind clothing and accessories.
